1. CM Punk’s Iconic 434-day Run As WWE Champion

It’s fair to say that CM Punk has caused shockwaves throughout 2014, despite only wrestling for a few weeks of it. After walking out in January, fans have spent all year begging for his return or at least answers to why he left. On Thanksgiving, they finally got answers. Punk “broke the internet” with a sensational two hour interview on Colt Cabana’s podcast, where he exposed the inner workings of the WWE and their Wellness Policy. This enraged officials and those at a corporate level, who have been told to never mention Punk again.
His recent signing to UFC made the mainstream news and closed the possibility of a WWE return for at least a couple of years. One of his greatest achievements in the company was something many thought wouldn’t happen again in modern pro-wrestling – a year-long world title reign. John Cena made it to 380 days in 2007 but Punk reached 434 – 14 months. When the opportunity arises, the WWE will be desperate to eclipse this record and give the plaudit to someone that can sell tickets off it.
How should the record be broken?
Realistically, it’ll probably (again) be Roman Reigns. He has been hand picked to lead the next generation of WWE superstars and a long, iconic reign is the best way to establish Reigns as the company’s top star. It could even start at WrestleMania 31 by defeating Brock Lesnar. Whoever gets the honour, WWE officials will make sure the man is media trained, well-spoken and a good representative of their company, rather than a rebel who could walk out on them.

2. Chyna Is The Only Woman To Win A Non-Female Championship

As unrealistic as this is, it’s a surprise that it hasn’t been attempted in the 13 years since Chyna left the WWE. They’ve gave Hornswoggle the Cruiserweight Championship, so why stop there? Chyna is one of those unmentionable names backstage but let’s not forget that Chyna was huge in her day – one of WWE’s biggest stars. She transcended women’s wrestling and regularly fought men. ‘The Ninth Wonder of the World’ beat Jeff Jarrett (another blacklisted name) at No Mercy 1999, and Chris Jericho soon after, to become a two-time Intercontinental Champion.

However, the writing was on the wall for Chyna when her boyfriend Triple H cheated on her with Stephanie McMahon – the power couple soon made sure she was fired. As unfair as that was, Chyna furthered herself from a WWE return with some ill-advised career decisions. She starred in porn films, made awkward TV appearances, got arrested for domestic assault and suffered from substance abuse. It’s unlikely she’ll ever appear in WWE again, yet her record still stands.
How should the record be broken?
Well there’s all sorts of potential problems to repeating Chyna’s feat. WWE would need a male superstar willing to lose to the woman in question, plus there’d be corporate struggles to go with it. Beth Phoenix and Kharma were two recent divas who broke the WWE’s trend of hiring models to dance and fumble between the ropes.
Kharma, in particular, was set to become dominant of both genders until personal reasons took her off TV. Until officials hire another strong, muscular, athletic woman, the record won’t be broken.

3. Goldust Has Never Won At WrestleMania

That’s right, ‘The Bizarre One’ has never won a match a WrestleMania. He fought Roddy Piper in a ‘Hollywood Backlot Brawl’, lost to Hunter Hearst Helmsley, teamed with Luna in a defeat to Marc Mero and Sable, took part in Hardcore Championship shenanigans at X8 and failed in the ‘Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal’. But no wins.
Now 45, Goldust has either given up on having his WrestleMania moment or took hope from Mick Foley and Jerry Lawler’s token matches from similar situations. He’s an active part of the WWE roster and heavily involved in the tag team scene with Stardust, so the chances of him having a match at WrestleMania 31 are good.
How should the streak end?
Win the tag titles on March 29th. Maybe the WWE could kill two birds with one stone and have him pin The Miz!

4. Rusev Is Undefeated

As is standard with a debuting WWE superstar, they start with a winning streak to get over with fans. It’s not just the big monsters, either. Bo Dallas, Fandango and Adam Rose all started with winning streaks. Only a select few manage to stay unbeaten for eight months and Rusev is one of those. He is currently the United States Champion, with rumours of an imminent return for the European Championship, and shared ring time with The Rock when ‘The People’s Champion’ made a surprise appearance in October.
So the WWE management clearly have faith in Rusev. Lana continues to push the Vladimir Putin line and caused controversy by seemingly referring to the Malaysian Airlines MH17 tragedy. Picked up by the mainstream media, it would have been easy for WWE to promptly end Rusev’s streak but it’s still going strong.
How should the streak end?
Lessons must be learnt from Ryback’s rapid decline. He had connected strongly with fans, then the WWE stupidly booked him to face CM Punk when they had no intention of changing the title. Ryback lost the match, lost momentum and soon turned heel. Rusev is already a heel but there are ways to keep him strong in defeat. John Cena, Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan have all lost plenty of times but they’re the main players in WWE.
Rusev should keep his U.S. Championship until WrestleMania, where he faces Cena – Russia versus America. SuperCena will win but Rusev needs to shake off the defeat and continue to crush opponents. It’s not the defeat that’ll hurt Rusev, it’s the manner of defeat.

5. The Miz Has Never Been Pinned At WrestleMania

This isn’t a knock on The Miz, who is underrated and an important part of the WWE roster. But he needs halting at WrestleMania before becoming the next Undertaker. Now technically, Miz has lost on the pre-show and was eliminated from the aforementioned ‘Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal’ but, on the main WrestleMania show, he has never been pinned or forced to submit. On only his second ‘Showcase of the Immortals’, Miz main evented and retained his WWE Championship against John Cena.
How should the streak end?
It depends where the Mizdow tag team goes. Damien Sandow is clearly the star of that alliance, as the fans desperately chant to see him. If they’re still together, they should lose their WWE Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania and, if not, have Sandow take a victory in a one-on-one match.

6. Cesaro Has No PPV Wins Since May

At WrestleMania XXX’s inaugural ‘Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal’, Cesaro defeated the likes of Sheamus, Mark Henry, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler in impressive fashion. He eliminated Big Show with a body slam and was presented with a huge trophy by Hulk Hogan. It was meant to be the start of a huge push for the Swiss superstar, yet it’s all gone wrong for him. Point blank refusing to turn him face, WWE made Cesaro a ‘Paul Heyman Guy’ and gave him a win over Jack Swagger and Rob Van Dam at Extreme Rules.
Since then, Cesaro hasn’t won any pay per view matches. Payback (defeat to Sheamus), Money in the Bank (defeat in an eight-way ladder match), Battleground (defeat in Battle Royal for the Intercontinental Championship), SummerSlam (pre-show defeat to Rob Van Dam), Night of Champions (defeat to Sheamus), Hell in a Cell (defeat to Dolph Ziggler), Survivor Series (pre-show defeat to Jack Swagger) and TLC (didn’t compete) have been and gone without success. Cesaro has lost Paul Heyman’s services and lost his way. He was specifically mentioned by Vince McMahon in his recent interview with Steve Austin, who thinks that “something is missing” in the ‘King of Swing’.
How should the streak end?



Just give him a win on the Royal Rumble undercard. Failing that, make him the iron man in the Rumble itself – anything that makes him look strong going into WrestleMania season.

7. Rey Mysterio Has Spent The Longest Time In A Royal Rumble – 62 Minutes

In what world is it realistic for 5ft 7in, 175lb Rey Mysterio to start a Royal Rumble and outlast 29 other superstars to win the thing? Yet this is what happened in 2006, when ‘The Ultimate Underdog’ won a World Heavyweight Championship shot at WrestleMania 22. From start to finish, Mysterio spent 62 minutes in the Rumble, beating Chris Benoit’s previous record by 37 seconds. In kayfabe, this was all fuelled by the heartbreak of best friend Eddie Guerrero’s real life death just two months previously, so Mysterio’s rise to the top would pull on fans’ heartstrings.
Nine years later, it looks silly. Obviously Benoit’s 61 minutes would have eventually been beaten, after the tragic double murder-suicide made Benoit persona non grata in the WWE. But someone needs to come along soon and set their own record.
How should the record be broken?
A superstar with the proverbial rocket tied to their back should get this honour. Roman Reigns, who is pencilled in to win the 2015 Rumble, may as well create another record to make him look unbeatable going into WrestleMania.
